The Sunshine Coast has its own relationship with cannabis that goes back well before legalization. Growing conditions out here, the climate, the water, the growing culture, produced some genuinely excellent cannabis for decades. At Coastal Green Sechelt on Highway 101, we carry legal flower that reflects that heritage, sourced from BC licensed producers who take cultivation seriously, not just producers who scaled fast to meet provincial supply demand.
Our Sechelt store serves a different customer profile than our Vancouver locations. Locals here are often experienced consumers with clear preferences. Seasonal residents and visitors from the Lower Mainland are sometimes newer to cannabis or coming from a market where they had different options. We stock for both.
The craft and micro-grow product that appeals to experienced consumers is on our floor consistently. Organnicraft, Simply Bare, and Good Buds Company are producers we return to regularly because the quality holds up across batches. We also stock more accessible price points for customers who want reliable everyday flower without paying $60 for a 3.5g.
When someone comes in asking for something relaxing, the indica label is a starting point, not the answer. Myrcene is the terpene most associated with sedating, body-focused effects. High-myrcene strains regardless of whether they are labelled indica or hybrid tend to produce that result. Pinene strains like Jack Herer tend toward clarity and focus. Linalool, which is also found in lavender, tends toward calm without heaviness.
Our team at the Sechelt location can tell you what the dominant terpenes are in whatever flower we have on the shelf. That conversation is more useful than the colour-coded indica/sativa chart in predicting how something will actually hit you.
Cannabis flower degrades over time. Terpenes, which are volatile compounds, evaporate as flower ages. A batch of Pink Kush that was harvested four months ago and sat in a warehouse for six weeks before reaching the shelf is a different product than the same strain fresh off the allocation. We pay attention to production dates and rotate our stock. If something has been sitting, it comes off the floor.
