To buy cannabis at a licensed dispensary in Vancouver, you need valid government-issued photo ID proving you are 19 years of age or older. That applies at all three Coastal Green locations and at every licensed cannabis retailer in BC. No ID means no sale. There are no exceptions.
The following are accepted at Coastal Green and at most licensed retailers in BC: a Canadian driver's licence or BC Services Card with photo, a Canadian passport, a foreign passport from any country, a Nexus card, a Permanent Resident card with photo, a Canadian military ID, a Status card, or a BC-issued Enhanced ID. The ID must be current and not expired. It must have your photo and your date of birth visible.
A digital ID on a phone is not accepted. A photocopy or screenshot of your ID is not accepted. A health card without a photo is not accepted. A student card is not accepted regardless of which institution issued it. If your ID is expired, it is not accepted even if the photo and date of birth are clearly legible.
If you are visiting Vancouver from outside Canada, your passport is the simplest and most universally accepted form of ID at any dispensary. A foreign driver's licence is also generally accepted as long as it has a photo and a date of birth in a readable format. If you have any doubt, bring your passport. We see tourists stopping in from hotels near Canada Place, Gastown, and the waterfront regularly. Having your passport on you is the no-friction option.
Our stores have a Challenge 25 policy in practice, which means if you look under 25 you will be asked for ID regardless of your actual age. This is standard at responsible licensed retailers. Do not take it personally. The LCRB takes age verification seriously and so do we. Bring your ID every time, even if you have been in before.
